
LOCATION
Mauritius is a small island found in the Indian Ocean, more precisely at latitude: 20º 17´ South of the Equator and longitude: 57º 33´East of Greenwich.

LAND AND AREA
Total: 2,040 sq km (including Agalega Islands, Cargados Carajos Shoals (Saint Brandon), and Rodrigues), with a coastline of 177 km.
The highest elevation point is 828m above sea level.
POPULATION
There are around 1.2 million people living in Mauritius.
CURRENCY
The currency used in Mauritius is the Mauritian Rupee - you can buy one banana for 2 rupees or a 0.5L bottle of Pepsi for 15 rupees.
LANGUAGES
The official language is English. But most people speak in the native creole; newspapers, radio, television or movies are in French; and English is normally used as teaching medium in schools/universities.
PLACES
• The capital city of Mauritius is Port-Louis, where you also have the harbour (and KFCs and McDo's!).
• There are four other towns: Beau-Bassin/Rose-Hill, Quatre-Bornes, Vacoas/Phoenix and Curepipe.
• The island is divided into 9 districts: Port-Louis, Plaines-Wilhems, Moka, Flacq, Pamplemousses, Rivière du Rempart, Black River, Savanne and Grand-Port.
• The (unique) airport is found at Plaisance, near Mahebourg, in the South Eastern part of the country.
• Sandy beaches can be found in the northern, eastern, south-eastern and south-western coasts of the island.
• The University of Mauritius is found in Réduit.
• Infosys is found in Ebene cybercity (which is very near Réduit).
• The Waterpark is found at Belle-Mare :-).
