Paul Hare was Emeritus Professor of Sociology in the Department of Sociology & Anthropology, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel, and an affiliate of the University's Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research.
Paul attended LOGON performances since 1980, when he made aliyah with his family, and his wife June was a chorus member of the first LOGON production, Trial by Jury. He first appeared on stage in Fiddler on the Roof in 1996, and 13 subsequent productions. He always liked to joke that his specialty was the crossover and noises off. However over the years he played several cameo roles, as listed below, each of which made a great contribution to the relevant show. During several seasons he was a member of the Board, Producer or co-Producer and Ombudsman.
A book, edited by Paul, together with Patricia Golan and Yamima Osher, entitled The Stage is Our World, about the first 25 years of LOGON was published in 2006 (available through Amazon.com). Paul also recently published a brief memoir, entitled Funny Things (2009, available through Amazon.com), which also features LOGON and shows what a large part the group played in his later life. The front cover shows Paul in his role of Erronius in the 2003 production of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.
Paul was a gentleman in every sense of the word but had an enormous sense of fun. He was mostly known for his punning, which just kept rolling off his tongue at every opportunity, keeping everyone in fits of laughter.
Paul will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. Our condolences go to June and the family.
