It was a nostalgic and fun filled evening when an ensemble group of LOGON players presented An Evening of Gilbert & Sullivan, a show case of songs from the G&S operettas performed by the group in past years. The concert was presented to a packed house at the newly opened Abraham's Well cafe in Beersheva, on Thursday, September 2. Perle Slech, speaking in both Hebrew and English, introduced each of the delightfully presented songs. |
Songs from Pirates of Penzance, The Gondoliers, H.M.S. Pinafore, Mikado, Trial by Jury, and The Yeoman of the Guard, were performed, solo, or in ensemble by Myran Bennett, Arlene Gilboa, Ricky Shapira, Dov Landzbaum, Ed Spitz, Gail Greene, Marcus Meyerowitz, Alan Cohen, Arnie Gross, Yamima Osher, Joan Avigur, Golda Simkins, Bob Gilmour, Mike Quastel and Pinchas Ziv. David Waldman was the Musical Director, and Rosa Howden choreographed and |
directed the production. More dates are being considered. Rodgers and Hammerstein's Carousel will be making its Israeli debut in March, courtesy of LOGON, directed and choreographed by Rosa Howden, with musical direction by David Waldman. Carousel contains some of Rodgers and Hammerstein's most beautiful and haunting melodies, like 'If I Loved You,' June is Bustin' Out,' 'When the Children are Asleep' and the unforgettable 'You'll Never Walk Alone.' |
The story of Carousel follows the troubled relationship of Billy Bigelow (Stephen Howden) and Julie Jordan (Laurel Polansky) from their first meeting to Billy's untimely death, and beyond. Other leading roles will be played by Ed Spitz, Victoria Howden (Yes, it runs in the family!), Alan Cohen and Jane Davidson. All the performances outside Beersheva are fundraisers. |
